The itinerary

1
Day 01

Iquitos to Nauta and Amazon Lodge Arrival

  • At 8:00 a.m., pick up from the hotel or airport and transfer to Nauta city by private car. On the way, observe the small villages of farmers settled along the roadside. The trip lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

  • Upon arrival in Nauta city, take a private typical boat to your Amazon lodge. Spend 2 hours and 30 minutes on the boat, first along the Marañon River, then the main Amazon River, and finally the Yarapa River, an affluent of the Ucayali River.

  • Arrive at the Amazon Lodge, check in to your private room, and coordinate your jungle tour excursions.

  • Walk deep into the primary forest for approximately two hours, getting to know part of the flora and fauna of the area.

  • Return to the lodge for lunch.

  • Optional visit to a small Amazon village to observe daily activities.

  • Continue to enjoy sightings of pink and grey Amazon dolphins, take many pictures, and go swimming with them too.

  • Eat dinner.

  • During the night, the jungle guide coordinates a canoe trip to see different nocturnal species of monkeys, frogs, and other animals.

Day 02

Jungle Walks, Fishing, and Survival Skills

  • Early in the morning, walk in the jungle to see varieties of monkey families, insects, and spiders in their natural habitat.

  • Have breakfast.

  • Tour the Yarapa River by boat to fish for piranhas, catfish, and other species.

  • Eat lunch.

  • Continue the jungle walking activities, learning about medicinal plants and the techniques of survival using the elements of the Amazon jungle.

  • Enjoy dinner.

  • After dinner, continue exploring the jungle and observe different kinds of insects, frogs, and other species.

Day 03

Giant Trees, Birdwatching, and River Wildlife

  • Early in the morning, go for a walk to see the giant Lupuna trees, Ceiba pentandra, Capirona, and Capinuri Heliocóstilis scabra, and enjoy birdwatching for Toucan Pteroglossus, the red macaw Ara Macao, blue-and-yellow macaw Ara ararauna, Great Egret Egretta alba, Amazon Kingfisher, and Amazon Chloroceryle.

  • Stop for lunch.

  • Enjoy the freshness of the Yarapa River by swimming and having the opportunity to observe the grey and pink dolphins. At the same time, many varieties of birds can be seen flying by.

  • Return to the lodge.

  • Eat dinner.

Day 04

Sunrise Hike and Rainforest Camping

  • Early in the morning, enjoy the sunrise in the heart of the jungle. Take a morning hike in the primary rainforest and talk about the different animals.

  • Have lunch at the lodge.

  • After lunch, ride a canoe or motorboat deeper into the primary rainforest for camping, where you will spend the night exploring during the day and night to find different species of nocturnal animals. For example, black and white caimans, frogs, owl monkeys, nocturnal birds, insects, and more. The next day, early in the morning, you will head back to the lodge.

Day 05

Camp Return and Transfer to Iquitos

  • Eat breakfast at the camp.

  • Return to the lodge. On the way, see small lakes and big rivers, and enjoy sightings of pink and grey dolphins.

  • At the indicated time, return to Nauta city and then continue to Iquitos.

  • Head to the office in Iquitos or the airport.

Know before you go

Recommendations for your journey to the jungle:

  • Carry light clothing, long sleeves, pants, a windbreaker jacket, hat, sunglasses, a water bottle, hiking shoes, a flashlight, insect repellent, sunscreen, shorts, bath linen, and sandals. In case of rain, the operator will provide rubber boots.

  • You can leave your extra luggage at our office during your jungle expedition. It is not recommended to take goods worth more than USD 150. Please declare your valuables to the authorities.

  • The company is not responsible for lost items. It is recommended to carry a personal bag with documents and money.

  • The lodge provides a generator for a limited time to charge batteries and other electronic equipment, such as cellphones.

  • Rainy season (November to July): please bring your rain protection gear, such as ponchos and jackets.

  • Summer season (July to November): bring your swimsuits to enjoy the Amazonian beaches. This is also the fishing season.

  • Passengers are required to arrive on the first flight of the day. Otherwise, rest for a night in Iquitos for an early start.

  • Camera battery charging is available using the lodge generator. Please request this from the lodge administrator.
