Matka Canyon Monasteries, Dam and Vrelo Cave
- You will be picked up by your tour guide.
- Arrive at the Holy Mother of God Monastery for a visit, with the chance for a private meeting and a pleasant talk with the nuns.
- Hike to the Matka Dam, built in 1937 during the time of the Kingdom of the Serbs.
- Take a boat tour to Vrelo Cave, considered by some to be the deepest cave in Europe, with two lakes inside.
- Stop at a restaurant for a refreshment (beer or juice) and visit Saint Andrew's Monastery.
- Enjoy free time for swimming, a walking tour, or climbing, which is not included in the price.
- Other options include a 30-minute hike to Saint Nikola Shishevski Monastery with spectacular views, where the housekeeper Zoki will serve you rakija and homemade coffee with famous Macedonian generosity, or kayaking.
You can spend your time here enjoying a full range of activities, including hiking, mountaineering, canoeing, speleology, and visits to medieval monasteries with picturesque frescoes. The canyon is also a wonderful place for birdwatching, especially for spotting bald eagles, and for seeing rare species of butterflies.
