Urgut, Chor-Chinor and Konigil Village

  • Meet your guide and driver at your hotel in Samarkand.
  • Depart Samarkand and drive to the garden of Chor-Chinor, translated from the Tajik language as "four chinaras." This sacred place is home to plane trees that are between 600 and 1,160 years old. Here, you will find the famous giant tree, whose girth is 16 metres. The hollow of this mighty plane tree once housed an entire school for classes, and tables and chairs are still there. Amazingly, the tree is still standing and growing.
  • Then head to Urgut Bazaar, a local oriental market where you will find items with an inspiring oriental flavour. The market is open every day, but the best days to visit are Wednesday and Sunday.
  • In the second half of the day, return to Samarkand and visit Konigil village and Mero's paper factory, founded by the famous Mukhtarov brothers. Thanks to their efforts at the local factory, the ancient tradition of making paper according to old Samarkand technologies has been revived. Interestingly, all production is done manually, and every factory guest can watch the paper-making process with their own eyes.
  • You can also observe the process of making silk carpets and various silk products and visit the factory's local shop.
  • Transfer to your hotel. End of the trip to Urgut and the excursion to the Silk Carpet Factory.
