Tsavo East National Park, nicknamed "Theatre of the Wild," is well known for its large herds of red-dusted elephants. Kenya's largest and oldest national park, established in April 1948, is home to the world's longest plateau, with the Yatta Plateau stretching over 300 kilometres. The park hosts many permanent residents, including lions, elephants, buffalo, waterbucks, lesser kudu, gerenuk, zebras, and giraffes, while crocodiles and hippos can be seen at Lugard Falls along the Galana River. Tsavo East also has prolific birdlife, with over 500 bird species recorded across the park.

Day by day

The itinerary

Day 01

Mombasa to Tsavo East and Afternoon Game Drive

Early morning pick-up at 6:30 am from your hotel, then drive to Tsavo East National Park, arriving in time for a late-morning game drive as you spot the Red Elephants.
Thereafter, check in at the lodge or camp for lunch.
After lunch, settle in and rest during the hottest part of the day.
After tea time, proceed for a second game drive through the park until 18:00 in search of the resident animals, including buffaloes, giraffes, gazelles, waterbucks, leopards, zebras, different bird species, and, not forgetting, the so-called "man-eaters" - the Lions of Tsavo.

All meals and overnight at Tsavo East Sentrim Camp or equivalent. (FB)

Day 02

Lugard Falls and Evening Game Drive in Tsavo East

After breakfast, proceed for a morning game drive, which will take you up to Lugard Falls. The falls are named after the first British governor of East Africa during the British Protectorate. This natural feature is found in the park, where the Galana River plunges into gorges, creating multi-coloured rocks and spectacular, magnificent, and evocative landscapes. Other attractions found along the river are hippos and crocodiles.
Thereafter, return to the lodge or camp for lunch. After lunch, relax until 16:00. In the evening, another game drive will follow until 18:00.

Day 03

Early Morning Safari and Return to Mombasa

Before breakfast, embark on a short game drive in the park - this is the best time of day to spot big cats.
Thereafter, return to the lodge for breakfast.
After breakfast, check out and drive towards Mombasa, with the last lunch en route, arriving at your hotel at around 17:00. (BL)
