Tsavo East National Park, Kenya, is nicknamed "Theatre of the Wild" and is well known for its large herds of red-dusted elephants. Established in April 1948, it is Kenya's oldest and largest national park and is home to the world's longest plateau, the Yatta Plateau, which stretches for over 300 kilometres. The park is rich in wildlife, including lions, elephants, buffalo, crocodiles, hippos at Lugard's Falls, waterbucks, lesser kudu, gerenuk, zebras, giraffes, and many more. It also has prolific birdlife, with over 500 bird species recorded across the park.

The itinerary

Day 01

From Mombasa to Tsavo East National Park

Early morning pick-up at 6:30 am from your hotel, then drive to Tsavo East National Park, arriving in time for a late-morning game drive as you spot the red elephants.
Check in at the lodge or camp for lunch.
After lunch, settle in and rest during the hottest part of the day.
After tea time, proceed for a second game drive through the park for 1-2 hours in search of the resident animals, namely buffaloes, giraffes, gazelles, waterbucks, leopards, zebras, and different bird species, not forgetting the so-called "man"-eaters, the Lions of Tsavo.

All meals and overnight at Tsavo East Sentrim Camp or equivalent.

Day 02

Morning Game Drive and Return to Mombasa or Diani Beach

Before breakfast, embark on a short game drive in the park - this is the best time of day to spot big cats.
Thereafter, return to the lodge for breakfast.
After breakfast, check out and drive towards Mombasa, having your last lunch en route. You will arrive at your hotel at around 17 hrs.
