6-Day Lalibela Churches and Danakil Depression Tour with Erta Ale

• Fly to Lalibela, take the airport transfer to town, and visit the rock-hewn churches.
• After checking in at your hotel, we will drive to the sites where some of Ethiopia's most famous rock-hewn churches are concentrated. These churches are often referred to as "the living wonders of the world." They have stood here for at least 900 years and remain active Christian shrines, serving as spiritual centres of the country's religious life.
• Then, we will visit the northwestern cluster of churches, which includes Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael, and Golgotha.
• After lunch, continue your visit to the southeastern cluster of Lalibela churches, including Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos.
• Finally, visit Bet Giyorgis, the most famous of all the churches. It is a huge monolithic structure in the shape of a cross, constructed in honour of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia.

Overnight: Lalibela

• After breakfast, we will drive from Lalibela to Semera through spectacular scenery. It is a 350 km, 7-hour drive.

Overnight: Kuriftu Resort Semera

• The drive from Semera to the volcano takes about 4 hours. You will visit Erta Ale, one of the most active volcanoes, and camp in the open air a little distance from the volcano. The trek to the volcano takes about 30 minutes, so you need to bring trekking shoes, a torchlight, and a mask.

Overnight: Camping in the open air

• Early in the morning, you will head to the volcano to witness a beautiful sunrise. After that, you will have breakfast at the base camp and then drive for 4 hours to Hamedella.
• Once there, you will visit Dallol, known for its stunning colours, the salt lake, salt mountain, and a swimming pool. You will also visit Lake Asa Ale to watch the sunset before camping under the open sky.

• In the early morning, you will watch the sunrise and then continue driving to Lake Afdera, one of the biggest salt lakes. You will swim there, and after lunch, continue driving to Semera.

Overnight: Kuriftu Resort Semera

• After breakfast, we will drive to Semera Airport for your flight to Addis.
