3-Day Lalibela Churches Tour with Asheton Monastery Trek

• Fly to Lalibela, take the airport shuttle transfer to town, and begin your visit to the rock-hewn churches.
• After lunch, drive to the sites where there is a concentration of some of Ethiopia's most famous rock-hewn churches, often referred to by many as "the living wonders of the world." These churches have been here for at least 900 years, remain an active Christian shrine, and continue to serve as the spiritual centre of the country's religious life.
• Then visit the northwestern cluster of churches, which consists of Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danaghel, Bet Mikael, and Golgotha.
• Finally, visit the most famous of all the churches - Bet Giyorgis, a huge monolithic church in the shape of a cross, constructed in honour of St. George, the patron saint of Ethiopia.

Overnight at Lalibela.

• After breakfast, trek to visit the monastery church of Asheton Mary, which stands at 3200 m above sea level. The monastery is located about a 2-hour walk from Lalibela and is still active.
• After a short break, continue trekking for 1.5 hours to Lalibela Hudad Eco Lodge, set at 3400 m above sea level and positioned to take in 360-degree views over the surrounding countryside.
• Have lunch at Lalibela Hudad Eco Lodge and spend the rest of the afternoon watching black Gelada baboons, mountain hyrax, and different endemic birds.
• In the afternoon, return to Lalibela by a different route. Along the 2-hour journey, stop at a local village to learn about the life of the local people.

Overnight at Lalibela.

• Early in the morning, attend a church service in one of the churches of Lalibela to see that these churches have remained active for 900 years.
• After breakfast, continue to visit the southeastern cluster of Lalibela churches - Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanual, and Bet Abba Libanos.
• Finally, drive back to Lalibela Airport for your next flight.
