Embark on a 4-day Tanzanian adventure that combines thrilling wildlife encounters with a refreshing hike. Begin in Mikumi National Park with a night game drive in search of nocturnal creatures such as leopards and civets, followed by a full-day safari to spot lions, elephants, and a dazzling array of birdlife. Then head to Udzungwa National Park to trade your safari vehicle for hiking boots as you explore the beauty of Sanje Waterfalls and enjoy a dip in its cool waters.

During the drive, you may see nocturnal and rarely seen animals such as civets, leopards, aardvarks, porcupines, genets, mongooses, bush pigs, lions, spotted hyenas, and other animals that remain hidden during daytime game drives.

The itinerary

1

Day 01

Dar es Salaam to Mikumi and Night Game Drive

• Our driver will pick you up from your hotel in Dar es Salaam at around 5:30 am for your transfer to Mikumi National Park, which will take about 5 to 6 hours. In Morogoro, you will have a hot lunch. Upon arrival in Mikumi, you will rest at Camp Bastian for a few hours and prepare for a night game drive from 7:30 to 10:30 pm.
• A night game drive is an adventurous evening activity in an open jeep with a spotlight for better viewing. A professional guide and an armed ranger will accompany you for safety. During the drive, you may see nocturnal and rarely seen animals such as civets, leopards, aardvarks, porcupines, genets, mongooses, bush pigs, lions, spotted hyenas, and other animals that remain hidden during daytime game drives. You may also spot hippos grazing on the ground.

Day 02

Full-Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

• After breakfast at the camp, depart for a full-day game drive. Mikumi National Park offers an amazing game-viewing experience that begins just a few minutes from the entrance gate. Although Mikumi is rich in a wide variety of animals and birds, it receives fewer visitors each year than the northern Tanzania game parks. During the game drive, you may see lions, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, elephants, zebras, and various antelope species.
• Mikumi is also home to more than 400 recorded bird species. Common birds found here include the Marabou stork, Red-billed oxpecker, Black-bellied bustard, Francolin, Cattle egret, Guinea fowl, Hornbill, and Malachite Kingfisher. You may also spot colourful species such as the Yellow-throated longclaw, Lilac-breasted roller, and Bateleur eagle.
• You will continue with the game drive until late afternoon, then drive to Mikumi Wildlife Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 03

Udzungwa Hike and Sanje Waterfalls

• After breakfast, drive to Udzungwa National Park with packed lunch boxes. The journey from Mikumi takes about 1.5 hours. On arrival, you will enter Udzungwa National Park with a ranger.
• You will hike in the Udzungwa Mountains, visit the waterfalls, and swim in the cool water below them. In the late afternoon, you will walk back to Udzungwa Forest Lodge for an overnight stay.

Day 04

Breakfast and Return to Dar es Salaam

• Today, after a leisurely breakfast at the camp, you will pack your luggage and depart for Dar es Salaam. On arrival in Dar es Salaam, we will drop you off at the airport or your hotel.

• We have different types of accommodation. The provided one is standard, but we can facilitate an upgrade to high or luxury levels, which will result in increased costs.
• There is also an option to fly to Zanzibar and spend more days at a beach resort.
