Day 01

Walking Tour of Mindelo's Cultural and Historic Landmarks

Visit the cultural and historic center of Mindelo, the cultural capital of the Cape Verde archipelago.
Visit the Cultural Center of Mindelo, where you can find art exhibitions and traditional handicrafts from the Cape Verde Islands. Every year in September, you can also appreciate the International Festival of Theatre, Mandela.
Further, visit the Fish Market, the African Market, the first church on São Vicente Island, Our Lady of Lights, the Municipal Market, and the emblematic Rua de Lisboa, the most famous street on São Vicente. This is the place where the great singer Cesária Évora, "The Queen of Morna," began her career, and where Cape Verde's most famous celebration, Carnival, takes place.
To finish the tour, you can visit the Museum of Traditional Arts, the island's first high school, and the old radio station, which is now a place where you can appreciate the traditional handicrafts of Cape Verde and the Traditional Festival of Handicraft, Fonartes.
