Explore the ksour and desert landscapes of Tataouine before heading to the hilltop Berber village of Chenini. Trek from Chenini to Douiret across arid terrain, visit Matmata's troglodyte houses and the iconic Sidi Idriss Hotel, and continue to the oasis of Ksar Ghilane to relax in its hot spring. The journey ends in Djerba with pottery, a museum visit, the Ghriba Synagogue, Djerbahood, Houmet Souk, and the historic Fadhloun Mosque, revealing the rich heritage and local traditions of southern Tunisia.

The itinerary

Day 01

Djerba to Tataouine, Ksar Visits, and Overnight in Chenini

• The first day of our excursion takes us to Tataouine, a town in southern Tunisia known for its ksour and breathtaking desert landscapes.
• After exploring the town's winding streets and admiring its unique architecture, we head to Chenini, a traditional Berber village perched on a hill.
• Here, we spend the night in a lodge, where we enjoy a local dinner lovingly prepared by the locals and a night under an unparalleled starry sky.

Day 02

Trek to Douiret, Matmata, and Desert Night in Ksar Ghilane

• At sunrise, we begin our trek from Chenini to Douiret, crossing arid landscapes and rugged trails.
• We then leave for Matmata, a small town known for its troglodyte houses. We visit one of these houses and share lunch with the inhabitants, a unique opportunity to discover their way of life and traditions.
• We visit the Sidi Idriss Hotel, the filming location of the famous Star Wars film.
• We then take a vehicle to reach Ksar Ghilane, a lush oasis in the middle of the desert.
• There, we relax in the hot spring, a true haven of peace. For adventure lovers, a quad outing or a camel ride is offered as an optional activity. We spend the night in a tent, lulled by the tranquil sounds of the desert.

Day 03

Ksar Ghilane to Djerba via the Roman Road

• After breakfast, you take the road to Djerba via the Roman road.
• Arrival in Gellela, where you will visit a workshop that manufactures and presents Djerbian pottery.
• Then, it will be time for a visit to the museum.
• After the museum visit, head towards the Ghriba Synagogue, which constitutes one of the main identity markers of the Jews of Djerba.
• Afterwards, you will stroll through the streets of Djerbahood, known for the harmonious colors of their walls, which are covered with artistic paintings by some of the greatest artists in the world who come from time to time to turn this village into a living work of art.
• The next step will be a stroll through the local market of Houmet Souk, the capital of the island, where you will feel the taste of local island life and discover the businesses of the local inhabitants.
• After a good lunch in a typical restaurant serving delicious local dishes, you end your program with a visit to one of the oldest mosques on the island, Fadhloun Mosque.
• The guided tour ends with your return to your accommodation or to the airport if you leave the same day.
