Know before you go

Prepare appropriate clothing.

This Komodo and Flores trip is more focused on a semi-adventure and adventure experience. Therefore, you need to prepare valuable items such as proper trekking shoes, long-sleeved clothes, a jacket (particularly when exploring the Flores mainland at elevations above 900 m above sea level, where temperatures are cooler), a raincoat, swimming suits, casual clothes, sun lotion, mosquito spray, malaria prescription, and other essentials for a comfortable journey.

Be aware of local wisdom and culture shock.

Flores and Komodo Island comprise ten indigenous ethnic groups, each with local languages, customs, and traditions. You need to adjust your dress according to the place you are visiting. For instance, when visiting a village, avoid wearing a mini dress and wear something more appropriate. Moreover, all visitors must wear a sarong (provided by local villagers) when entering the village or their principal houses. We also recommend that you do not give money to children, as it is not an educative way to support the younger generation. And please do not litter. Keep the environment clean.

Bring enough cash.

There are no ATM machines in Komodo National Park. Most payment transactions are cash-based, including Komodo National Park fees, the purchase of local souvenirs, and personal expenses. In addition, during a Flores overland tour, ATM machines are only available in administrative towns such as Labuan Bajo, Ruteng, Bajawa, Ende, Maumere, and Larantuka. When exploring villages, make sure you withdraw cash in one of these towns to avoid difficulties with payment transactions. Moreover, internet service is not as good as in Labuan Bajo.

Bring your personal medicine.

If you have any medical history, please bring your doctor's prescription with you. For instance, if you have asthma, heart disease, cholesterol issues, diabetes, seasickness, or motion sickness, you need to be able to adapt to this tropical environment.

Read more information about safety standard procedures.

During your journey to Komodo National Park, you need to be aware that there are numerous rules and regulations set by the park authorities that must be obeyed by all visitors, including maintaining a normal distance from the Komodo dragon and avoiding any sudden movements. Women who are menstruating should inform the tourist guide so this can be communicated to the park ranger.

Bring a camera and cell phone.

Every valuable moment of your journey deserves to be captured on your camera or cell phone camera. You can use them to take memorable photos or videos to share with your family, friends, or others back home.
