The itinerary

Day 01

Cotonou to Ouidah Sacred Forest and Festival

  • After breakfast, drive to Ouidah and stop at the sacred forest to learn about the history and spiritual life of the Ouidah people.
  • Gain insight into why voodoo ceremonies and festivals began.
  • Later, visit the python temple, where pythons are worshipped. You will see many live pythons in this temple, which are considered a principal totem of the HOUEDA people, the biggest community in Ouidah.
  • You can take photos with the pythons, as they are not known to bite.
  • In the afternoon, witness the festival around the city. You will see locals dancing to voodoo music and making sacrifices in the convents in the forest or at the beach, where the festivals take place.

Dinner and overnight stay at Diaspora Hotel.

Day 02

Ouidah Ceremony and Grand Popo Celebrations

  • After breakfast, proceed to the sacred forest, where the ceremony begins. Voodoo priests from around Ouidah lead the celebrations with Daagbo Big pHounon, walking through the sacred forest and sacrificing animals for the different voodoos.
  • At 11 o'clock, drive to Grand Popo, where a big party is held.
  • Be entertained by locals and enjoy various traditional dances.

Day 03

Gbècon and Hêvê Boat Excursion with Grand Popo Voodoo Rituals

  • After breakfast, embark on a rowing boat for a cultural excursion to the villages of Gbècon and Hêvê. Navigate through the mangroves of the river, depending on the tide, and explore the villages.
  • Proceed to "La Bouche du Roi," an unspoiled beach where the river meets the sea.
  • On the return journey to Grand Popo, visit the salt island.
  • In the afternoon, participate in a private voodoo ceremony in Grand Popo.
  • Later, visit the voodoo temple, where you will meet the priest of the voodoo HEBIOSSO, also known as the voodoo of justice and symbolized by thunder.

Dinner and overnight stay at Diaspora Hotel.

Day 04

Divination, Ganvié Stilt Village, and Departure

  • In the morning, participate in divination, the African oracle (FA), which predicts the future and reveals hidden or mysterious things.
  • Drive to Calavi to visit Ganvie, the stilt village famously known as the Venice of Africa. Experience firsthand how locals live on top of the water.
  • Later, proceed to Ouidah, where you will be dropped off at the airport for your onward flight.
