Explore the Dja Reserve in southern Cameroon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 and one of the country's great ecotourism destinations. Covering 5,260 square kilometers, this vast rainforest protects exceptional biodiversity, with more than 1,500 plant species, around 107 mammal species, and 320 bird species recorded in and around the reserve. The area is also home to iconic wildlife such as elephants, gorillas, and chimpanzees, alongside immersive forest trekking and cultural encounters with local communities.

Spend the day hunting, fishing, harvesting honey and fruits, and learning traditional skills.

The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Yaoundé

  • Upon arrival at the airport, the tour staff will welcome you. Once customs formalities are cleared, our guide will assist you through the rest of the arrival process, such as currency exchange, and then transfer you to the hotel for dinner.

Day 02

Yaoundé to Somalomo and Dja Reserve

  • Depart for the Dja Reserve via Somalomo after breakfast. On the way to the Dja Biodiversity Reserve, pass through AYOS and Messamena. Stop for lunch in the afternoon, then complete the entry formalities into the reserve.
  • Continue into the reserve in the company of porters, an ecotourist guard, and a cook. Upon arrival, settle into the camp and sleep under canvas.

Day 03

Trek to Chouam Rock

  • Have breakfast and depart for Chouam Rock.
  • Trek 16 km to reach the rock. On arrival, settle in and watch buffaloes, sitatunga, monkeys, antelopes, butterflies, birds, and flora, with opportunities for safari photos. Sleep under canvas on the rock.

Day 04

Chouam Rock to Somalomo

  • Wake up in the morning and have breakfast. Walk back to Somalomo, watching various animals and flora along the way, and pluck forest fruits during the journey.

Stay overnight at Barthelemy's Inn.

Day 05

Cultural Experience at Mama Pigmy Camp

  • Start your pygmy adventure with breakfast, then travel to the camp for a warm welcome and gifts.
  • Spend the day hunting, fishing, harvesting honey and fruits, and learning traditional skills.
  • As evening arrives, witness fire-making and traditional medicine, then enjoy a village dance and dinner before a cosy night in camp.

Day 06

River Dja Canoe Ride and Return to Yaoundé

  • Canoe down the scenic River Dja in the morning after breakfast, arriving back in the village.
  • Head to Yaoundé, settle into the hotel for the afternoon, and enjoy the local cuisine at a restaurant for dinner.

Day 07

Departure from Yaoundé

  • Meet your driver after breakfast in the lobby, who will transfer you to the airport to catch your next flight back home.
