8-Day Tibet Group Tour from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp

• Once you arrive, our local Tibetan tour guide and driver will greet you at Lhasa Airport or Railway Station and transfer you to the hotel.
• From the airport to downtown Lhasa, it takes about 1 hour; from Lhasa Railway Station, about 20 minutes.
• After being transferred to the hotel, you will be free to wander around the city on your own for the rest of the day, but try not to overexert yourself.
• A good rest on the first day is crucial for acclimatizing to the high altitude.
• Remember to drink plenty of water, eat light meals, and avoid taking a shower if possible.

Stay overnight in Lhasa.

• After breakfast at the hotel, your tour guide will take you to Drepung Monastery, the biggest Tibetan monastery, which housed more than 10,000 monks in the past.
• Drepung means "Rice Heap" in the Tibetan language. The entire monastery is large in scale, and its white buildings cluster across the hillsides.
• It is the highest-ranking monastery in the Gelug Sect.
• In the afternoon, you will first visit the Tibet Museum. Here, you can see scenes of daily life, exquisite clothing, house architecture, and festival customs to explore Tibet's special and mysterious traditions.
• Then you will visit Norbulingka, a typical Tibetan-style royal garden and the summer resort of the Dalai Lama.

• Today, you will visit the famous Potala Palace, the cardinal landmark of Tibet and a masterpiece of Tibetan architecture.
• Potala Palace was the winter palace of the successive Dalai Lamas.
• It was built by the 33rd great king of Tibet, Songtsen Gangpo, in the 7th century.
• The most valuable collections in Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.
• At noon, the tour guide will take you to a good restaurant for lunch and a short rest.
• In the afternoon, you will visit Jokhang Temple in the center of Lhasa Old Town.
• Jokhang Temple is the most sacred temple in Tibet, and it has always been bustling with earnest local pilgrims since early times.
• After that, you will take a walk around Barkhor Street, one of the most devotional circuits and also a crowded central market of Lhasa.
• Barkhor Street is a very ancient circular street surrounding Jokhang Temple, and the locals are always proud of it.
• As a symbol of Lhasa, it is also a must-see place for visitors.

• Today, you will travel from Lhasa to Shigatse via the Kampala Pass (4,790 m) and visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet.
• Standing by the lakeside, you can admire its blue water shimmering with charming light, as well as the snow-capped holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar (7,191 m) in the distance.
• Next, you will pass by and enjoy the Karola Glacier on the roadside.
• It lies about 300 m from the main highway on the way to Gyantse.
• Then you will visit the main monastery in Gyantse - Pelkor Chode Monastery, famous for its exquisite architecture and intact murals and statues.

Stay overnight in Shigatse.

• In the morning, you will leave Shigatse for Lhatse, a small town located 150 km from Shigatse, where you may have lunch at a local restaurant.
• After a short rest, you will continue on to Tingri.
• You will pass through the first high mountain pass, Tsola Pass (4,600 m), and then the second one, Gyatsola Pass (5,248 m), the mountain pass of Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve, with countless prayer flags flying in the wind.
• Afterward, you will keep ascending to Gawula Pass (5,198 m), where you can enjoy a panorama of the Himalayas.
• Then you will drive along the zigzag road to Everest Base Camp for your overnight stay.
• Accommodation there is basic, with dorm-bed lodging only.
• From here, you may be able to see the glorious Everest sunset if the weather is good.

Stay overnight in Rongbuk guesthouse or Nomad Tent (dorm bed).

• You can get up early and enjoy the sunrise over Everest Peak at Everest Base Camp if the weather is good.
• After sightseeing, we will drive back to Shigatse and enjoy the fabulous views along the way.

Stay overnight in Shigatse.

• In Shigatse, you will visit Tashilhunpo Monastery, the home of the Panchen Lama.
• It is located on the central hill of the city, and the full Tibetan name of the monastery means "all fortune and happiness gathered here" or "heap of glory".
• After the visit, drive back to Lhasa from Shigatse along the Friendship Highway, the northern route to Lhasa.
• On the way, you will see the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley.
