The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival in Tunis and Hotel Transfer

  • Upon arrival, you will meet our driver holding a sign with your name and transfer to your hotel for the first night.

Accommodation: Hotel Belvedere Fourati or similar in B&B

Day 02

Journey to Bir El-Haj and First Desert Camp

  • Transfer by private vehicle to Bir El-Haj, the gateway to the desert. Enjoy a midday lunch on the way and arrive around 5 pm.
  • Meet the camel drivers and spend the first night on site, in the middle of nowhere.
  • Light the wood fire with the camel drivers' team and prepare dinner in a Bedouin atmosphere.

Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 03

Camel Caravan to Hdif El Boum

  • Wake up gently with the first rays of the sun.
  • Light the fire to prepare sand bread and have breakfast.
  • Begin the caravan and depart for your campsite for the second night.
  • Hike at your own pace for two or three hours, enjoying the landscapes along the way.
  • Whenever you feel tired, your faithful friend, the dromedary, will kneel down to carry you.
  • Stop for lunch in mid-afternoon, then continue with 2 hours of walking between the dunes before sunset.
  • Set up the tents in the middle of the desert, where the only sounds you will hear are the songs and stories of the camel drivers.

Day 04

Desert Walk to El Biben

  • As the first rays of the sun reach your tents, you will wake up with your head full of memories from the previous evening and a smile on your face - though your face may also be full of sand.
  • The camel drivers will already have lit the fire and prepared the table for a delicious breakfast.
  • Your daily program will begin, and you will follow the rhythm of the camels.
  • After a light lunch, continue to El Biben, where you will set up the tents and prepare dinner. You can contribute by gathering wood for the fire and learning how to cook with very little.

Dinner, Saharan vigil, and overnight in peace.

Day 05

Trek to Zmela Camp

  • With the first rays of the sun caressing you, you will wake up with a smile on your face.
  • By now, you will have settled into the rhythm and learned the camel drivers' morning habits: setting breakfast on the dunes, preparing sand bread, and gathering around the fire to eat.
  • Like every day, you will walk at a steady pace in the footsteps of the dromedaries, except that today it will be a little faster so you can reach the camp and finally enjoy a good shower.
  • Towards sunset, arrive at Zmela Camp, located in a sublime setting between delicate dunes. Return to your tent, take your shower, have dinner, and enjoy a Saharan evening.

Day 06

Ksar Ghilane Oasis and Matmata Excursion

  • After breakfast, leave the camel drivers, who will take the road back, and continue by private vehicle.
  • Your first stop will be the oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where you will enjoy free time among the palm trees and a swim in the hot spring.
  • A quad bike ride in the dunes is available as an extra and is payable on site.
  • Continue to the famous village of Matmata, the troglodyte village par excellence, with a photo stop at the Berber village of Tamazret.
  • Arrive in Matmata and visit a homestay, where you will be welcomed by your host with rosemary tea, olive oil, and honey.
  • Enjoy a typical midday meal with the locals. After the meal, return to Tunis.
