Explore Tsavo East National Park, featured in the film The Ghost And The Darkness, on a full-day safari from Malindi. Established in April 1948, this vast Kenyan national park covers 13,747 km2 (5,308 sq mi) across the semi-arid area once known as the Taru Desert. Together with Tsavo West National Park, it forms an ecosystem of about 22,000 square kilometres, offering rewarding wildlife-viewing opportunities in one of Kenya's most iconic safari landscapes.

Day 01

Full-Day Safari to Tsavo East National Park

• Pick up from your hotel and drive to Tsavo East National Park via the Mombasa-Nairobi Trans-African Highway, entering through Bachuma Gate.
• Visit different sections of the park, especially the loop side, which is swampy and where most animals are found.
• Continue to the pipeline area, where most of the elephants concentrate because there are many water holes for mud bathing.
• Here, you get a chance to see different wild animals, especially giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and lots of elephants. If you are lucky, you may also see the big cats hunting or feasting on a kill, especially lions. Later, depart for Malindi. End of tour.

What to bring

• Tsavo is a semi-arid park, and it lies along the Taru Desert. You will need light clothes while here and also at the accommodation. It gets extremely warm during the day and also at night.
• You also need a cap, as it is dusty.

Know before you go

• The road from Malindi to the main gate is extremely comfortable, as it is tarmac. Inside the park, the roads are murram, so you get free "massages" while doing the game drives.
• It is a whole-day activity.
