The itinerary

Day 01

Arrival and Transfer to Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Be picked up from the airport.
Transfer to Kizumba House or similar accommodation for an overnight stay.

Overnight at Kizumba House, including bed and breakfast.

Day 02

Hike to Miriakamba Hut Through Montane Forest

Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate.
Complete a short registration at Momella Gate before commencing the hike.
Begin the hike with a fully armed ranger escorting the group.
Encounter wild animals such as buffalo, zebras, giraffes, monkeys, antelopes, and sometimes elephants.

Reach Miriakamba Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

Altitude: 1,500 m - 2,541 m

Hiking time: 4-6 hours

Day 03

Trek to Saddle Hut and Optional Little Meru Climb

Depart from Miriakamba Hut towards the saddle below Little Meru.
Experience a short but steep climb on this leg of the journey.
Walk along the ridge, gradually ascending and enjoying spectacular views of the Meru Crater and the impressive Ash Cone.
Arrive at Saddle Hut for a hot lunch.
Optionally, embark on a short climb to the summit of Little Meru (3,820 m) to enjoy superb views just before sunset.

Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 04

Sunrise Summit of Socialist Peak and Descent to Arusha

Start early, around 1:30 am, for a steep climb to Rhino Point (3,800 m).
Proceed to Cobra Point (4,350 m).
Continue the ascent to reach the summit (4,566 m) in time for sunrise.
There is a possibility of witnessing Mt. Kilimanjaro's peak above the clouds.
Navigate the final part of the climb along a spectacular narrow ridgeline between sheer inner cliffs and the crater's sloping outer wall.
Take a short rest and have brunch at Saddle Hut.
Begin the descent towards Momella Gate.
Arrive at Momella Gate, where it is customary to tip your porters, guide, cook, and game ranger.
Transfer back to Kizumba House in Arusha for refreshments, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Altitude: 3,570 m - 3,600 m - 4,350 m - 4,566 m - 1,500 m

Hiking time: 12-14 hours

Distance: 5 km ascent and 13 km descent

Habitat: Alpine Desert, Moorland and Montane Forest

Day 05

Departure Day and Airport Transfer

After breakfast, enjoy some leisure time at the hotel in the morning.
If your flight departs later in the day, relax and enjoy your time at the hotel until it is time to leave, then get transferred to the airport according to your flight departure time.
If your flight departs in the morning or early afternoon, prepare for departure and get transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.

Know before you go

Start your physical preparation (hiking) at least two months before.
Decrease your efforts during the last two weeks and rest in the final days before the climb so your body can recover properly.
We recommend long walks on different terrain, swimming, and yoga.
Prior communication is required to ensure proper arrangement for your climb.
Passing the ridge between Rhino Point and the summit may not be possible in icy conditions or strong winds. Your guide will assess the conditions for safety.
