This 4-day experience combines river journeys, jungle walks, and wildlife encounters, including a canoe ride on Oxbow Lake to spot giant otters, wild boars, macaws, parrots, and more. You will also explore the forest by night, visit the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, and enjoy the rich biodiversity of the Amazon Basin.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado and Night Jungle Walk

  • Be picked up by a Peruvian tour guide after landing in Puerto Maldonado.

  • Head to the office to repack and sort out only the necessary things to take to the lodge, such as long pants, long sleeves, torches, and mosquito protection.

  • Proceed on a one-hour boat ride, during which lunch will be provided. Then continue with a one-and-a-half-hour boat ride to the lodge, with chances to spot wildlife along the way.

  • Arrive at the lodge and settle into your bungalow (room) to rest until the first activity, the night walk.

  • During the night walk, explore and enjoy the jungle sights after dark and all their beauty.

Have dinner.

Day 02

Primary Forest Hike and Oxbow Lake Exploration

  • Hike through the primary forest for two and a half hours, with the chance to see many medicinal plants and species of monkeys, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and other mammals.

  • Arrive at Oxbow Lake and board a canoe to move through the water, where you may see giant otters, wild boars, and varieties of beautiful birds.

  • Have a picnic lunch in the forest facing the lake, enjoy piranha fishing, and at the end of the day return to the lodge.

  • Enjoy a free afternoon to relax in the hammocks in front of the river and watch the sunset.

  • Take part in a Cayman search activity in the main river to look for these alligator-like reptiles.

Day 03

Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick and Forest Walk

  • Wake up very early at 3:30 am to undertake a 2-hour boat ride upriver to visit one of the unique places in Tambopata National Reserve, the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. Here, hundreds of birds from the Psittacidae family, including macaws, parrots, and parakeets, gather to lick clay from the riverbank. Have the chance to see them up close and take pictures and videos.

  • Have breakfast in the area.

  • Enjoy this majestic and amazing place, then head back to the lodge with another chance to search for jaguars along the riverbank with a Peruvian tour guide.

  • Have lunch at the lodge.

  • In the afternoon, go on a short stroll in the forest to see the majestic kapok tree, a tree over 200 years old, and visit a local farm.

Dinner at the lodge.

Day 04

Departure from Puerto Maldonado

According to your flight time, breakfast will be arranged.

  • Take a boat and bus ride back to town (office) and then continue to the airport.
