  • You can find one-horned rhinos, Bengal tigers, and many different animals here.
  • Situated across the banks of the Brahmaputra River, it inhabits the world's largest population of Indian one-horned rhinos.
  • After completing the tour, head out for Shillong.

Mawlynnong Village and Dawki Excursion

  • After breakfast, head to Mawlynnong.
  • Prepare to be amazed by the enigma that awaits you.
  • Mawlynnong, a village nearly 80 km from Shillong, has marvels that will astonish you.
  • Witness a living root bridge, grown with the help of the roots of the Ficus Elastica tree.
  • Marvel at the spirit of the villagers who have earned the prestige of being the cleanest village in Asia without using any technology.
  • Another wonder is the balancing of a big boulder on a small rock, remaining unchanged against the test of time and nature.
  • Head to Dawki, a border town near the Indo-Bangladesh border, approximately a 34 km drive away.
  • The most sought-after attraction of Dawki is the Umngot River, known for its transparency and picturesque scenery, with a suspension bridge built by the British in 1932.

  • Start your day early.
  • Discover the magnificent Double Decker Root Bridge.
  • It's a 3000-step one-side journey from the parking area at Nongriat.
  • Climbing up and down will take approximately 4.5-5 hours.
  • Enjoy the beautiful waterfall right in front of the double-decker bridge, where you can relax for a while.
  • If you want to go further to the Rainbow waterfall, it will take another 1-2 hours.

Cherrapunji Sightseeing and Drive to Shillong

What to bring

Know before you go

  • Weather Conditions: Northeast India experiences varied weather patterns. While it can be warm during the day, especially in Guwahati and Kaziranga, temperatures can drop in the evenings, especially in higher-altitude regions like Shillong and Cherrapunjee. Be prepared for both warm and cool weather by packing layers.

  • Monsoon Season: The region, especially Cherrapunjee and Mawsynram, receives heavy rainfall during the monsoon season (June to September). While the lush greenery is stunning during this time.

  • Altitude Considerations: Some destinations like Shillong and Cherrapunjee are situated at higher altitudes. If you're sensitive to altitude changes, take it easy during your first few days to acclimatize.

  • Local Customs and Culture: Northeast India is culturally diverse, with each region having its own traditions and customs. Respect local customs, dress modestly while visiting religious sites, and seek permission before photographing people or cultural events.

  • Transportation: While traveling between destinations, be prepared for long drives, especially on winding mountain roads.

  • Cash Availability: While major cities may have ATMs and card facilities, smaller towns and rural areas may have limited access to banking services. Carry sufficient cash for your daily expenses, especially in remote areas.

  • Language: English and Hindi are widely understood, but locals may primarily speak Assamese, Khasi, or other regional languages. Carry a phrasebook or translator app for basic communication.
