The itinerary

Day 01

Flight to Shire and Historic Axum Tour

Take a morning flight from Addis Ababa to Shire.
Drive 60 km to Axum and check in to your hotel.
Begin a city tour of Axum, visiting historical sites including King Ezana's Stele, the Tomb of King Kaleb, the Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion, and Queen of Sheba's Bath.

Overnight stay in Axum at the hotel.

Day 02

Yeha Temple and Ancient Monasteries

Visit the temple of Yeha, one of the best-preserved pre-Aksumite structures in Ethiopia.
Explore this ancient site, which flourished between the 8th and 9th centuries BC, providing valuable insights into the country's rich history and culture.
Explore the Debre Tsion Abune Abreham Monastery, known for its beautiful frescoes and religious significance.
Later, make your way to Yohannes Makudi, one of the early Ethiopian Coptic Christian churches, nestled between towering sandstone cliffs and accessible only via a narrow cleft.

Day 03

Trek to Mariam Korkor Monastery

Enjoy a delicious breakfast before embarking on a 2-hour trek to the Mariam Korkor Monastery, dating back to the 3rd century.
Visit the monastery and then take a short walk to Abba Daniel's Prayer Room, a small rock church.
Later in the day, drive back to Hawzen for rest and relaxation.

Overnight accommodation will be provided in Hawzen.

Day 04

Abuna Yemeta Guh and Return to Mekelle

Explore the impressive Abuna Yemeta Guh rock-hewn church.
Afterward, head back to Mekelle.
