Itinerary

1. Day 1: Trek through Gheralta Mountains and Historic Churches

   • Drive from Mekelle about 100km towards the massive Gheralta mountains, and drop you at the trekking site's beginning.
   • After breakfast at the bottom of the mountain, trekking at 1:30 to reach the old church in the sky called Youhans Mahali. 
   • After visiting this church, continue trekking for about 3 -4 hours to reach the colourful, decorated church, dated back to 7thc, AD called Abune Abraham and continue down to the base camp for about 2 hours.

   Accommodation: camping in the village under the big tree.

2. Day 2: Trek to Maryam Papaseit

   • After breakfast, our professional cook continues trekking, admiring the incredible view, wildlife, and traditional Tigray house to reach Maryam Papaseit. 
   • After visiting that church, trekking to the base camp for about 4 hours.

   Accommodation at: camping in a village called Korkor.

3. Day 3: Trek to Gheralta's Highest Point

   • After early breakfast, trekking to the highest point of the Gheralta, 2700 above sea level, to see the view towards the four corners of the remarkable Gheralta mountains. 
   • After lunch, at the top of the mountain, continue trekking to visit the Maryam Riam & Daniel Korkor Church.

    Accommodation at: “guh” Village

4. Day 4: Trek to Abune Yemata Church

   • After breakfast, continue trekking to visit one of the famous and best churches in the Gherlta area, Abuna Yemata Guh.

    Accommodation at your chosen Hotel in Hawzan, or you can drive to Mekele or Axu.
