The itinerary

Day 01

Chan Chan, Site Museum and Huanchaco

  • Today, we will drive north of Trujillo to visit Huaca Dragon, also known as Huaca Arco Iris (Rainbow Pyramid), which belongs to the Chimú culture. This huaca is currently closed because of the pandemic and is expected to reopen soon, so please ask whether it is already open.
  • It has been replaced with the Chan Chan Site Museum, which preserves artifacts found during more than 40 years of excavations at Chan Chan.
  • After this, we continue to Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the Americas.
  • Then, we go for a short visit to Huanchaco to see its traditional reed boats, called caballitos de totora.
