This 3-day safari takes you to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda's largest park, in northwestern Uganda. Covering 3,840 sq km and first gazetted in 1926 as a game reserve, the park features savannah grasslands and the Victoria Nile, which divides it into the northern and southern banks. Murchison Falls is home to 76 mammal species and more than 451 bird species, including the Great blue Turaco, Goliath heron, Shoebill, and dwarf kingfisher. Along the way, you will also track rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and enjoy classic wildlife viewing by road and by boat.

Reaching the top of the falls is a fantastic experience, as you will watch the magnificent falls squeezing through the rocks in an 8 m gorge.

The itinerary

1
Day 01

Transfer to Murchison Falls and Rhino Tracking at Ziwa

  • After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel at 7:00 am. You will receive a briefing about your 3-day safari to Murchison Falls before beginning the 6-hour journey to Murchison Falls National Park. You will travel through Luwero and later stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking, where you will find both black and white rhinos.
  • After tracking, you will make another stop in Masindi for lunch. After lunch, you will proceed to the park. Once the park entry payments are made, you will drive towards the top of the falls. Along the way, you may see various animals such as warthogs and baboons. Reaching the top of the falls is a fantastic experience, as you will watch the magnificent falls squeezing through the rocks in an 8 m gorge. Take as many photos as you can. Later, you will drive to the lodge, relax for the rest of the evening, have dinner, and stay overnight.

Day 02

Morning Game Drive and Nile Boat Cruise

  • On this day, you will wake up early and have breakfast. Afterwards, your ranger-guide will pick you up from the lodge to begin your game drive at 7:00 am. During the drive, you may see many animals, including lions, buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, antelopes, waterbucks, and birds. After the game drive, at around 11:40 am, you will return to the lodge, relax and freshen up, and have lunch as you prepare for the afternoon boat cruise.
  • On the boat, you will be able to see various Nile crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes, and elephants along the banks of the Nile, as well as many beautiful birds singing in the trees, such as bee-eaters, coloured kingfishers, the shoe billed stork, and many others. The boat ride will take you to the base of Murchison Falls, where you will be able to see the mighty waterfalls. You may choose to hike to the top, where you will meet your driver-guide, who will drive you back to the lodge.

Day 03

Final Game Drive and Return to Kampala

  • Enjoy your breakfast. Thereafter, you will proceed for another morning game drive on your way back to Kampala. It will be a great time to look out for various animal species, many of which will be seen feeding in the grasslands, such as buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, lions, and antelopes, not forgetting a number of bird species.
  • You will leave the park, stop in Masindi for lunch, and continue the journey, reaching Kampala in the evening. Meal plan: breakfast and lunch.
