Sun and Moon Temples, Chan Chan and Huanchaco
- Meet your tour guide and visit the Sun and the Moon temples, a religious center of the Moche culture, which developed between 100 and 900 AD. This archaeological complex features two large flat-topped pyramids known as huacas.
- Then drive north of Trujillo to visit Huaca Dragon, also known as Huaca Arco Iris (Rainbow Pyramid), which belonged to the Chimu culture. Since the pandemic, it is still not open, so you will spend more time at the temples instead.
- After lunch, continue to Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in America, built by the Chimu and covering an area of about 20 square kilometres.
- Head to the ancient fishing village of Huanchaco for lunch or photos, depending on time. Huanchaco is one of the most famous beaches in Peru, where you can see the traditional fishing boats, called caballitos de totora, which are still in use today.
- Finally, return to Salaverry Port.
