The itinerary

1
Day 01

Huaraz to Pashpa Village and Ishinca Base Camp

  • Depart from Huaraz at 8:00 am and head toward the northern side of Callejon de Huaylas until Paltay town.

  • Turn east and continue to Pashpa village at 3,600 m. On the dirt road, meet the donkey driver, who will load the climbing gear for transport to base camp at 4,350 m, where the campsite is located.

Overnight camp at Ishinca base camp.

Day 02

Summit Day on Ishinca Peak

  • Prepare the climbing gear and tools very early, at around 2:00 am.

  • Have breakfast and then begin walking up toward Ishinca Mountain at 5,530 m.

  • Follow the switchbacks to the moraine on a trail of about 3 hours. Then climb for around 2 hours from the glacier edge to the summit.

  • Enjoy a spectacular sunrise and splendid mountain views. See more than 10 summits over 6,000 meters around you, including Ranrapalca Mountain.

  • Descend by the same route to base camp and enjoy your last night camping at Ishinca base camp.

Day 03

Ishinca Base Camp to Pashpa Village and Huaraz

  • Pick up the climbing gear after breakfast.

  • Walk down along the Ishinca Valley to Cochapampa, where the private transport will be waiting to take you back to Huaraz.

End of the expedition.

Know before you go

  • This summit is perfect for acclimatization, with an easy climbing difficulty. The normal route follows the west ridge, between the col of Ranrapalca and Ishinca Mountain. It offers a breathtaking mountain view from the summit, where you will be surrounded by snow-capped peaks over 6,000 m, such as Chinchey Mountain, Palcaraju Mountain, Tocllaraju Mountain, Ranrapalca Mountain, and the impressive Huantzan Mountain.

  • Maximum altitude: 5530 m (Ishinca summit).

  • Difficulty: Moderate.

  • Duration: 3 days / 2 nights.

  • Preferred time: May - September.

  • Average temperature: Between 13° C - 23° C during the day; at night, -05° C to -02° C.
