Itinerary

Arusha City to Mount Meru
- You will be picked up from your hotel after breakfast and will be given a briefing about the hike on your way. The tour starts from Tengeru cultural center.
- You will start hiking and follow the tropical trails under the banana canopy, while be listening to some thrilling legendary stories about Meru people from your guide. The majority of the hike is more like walking up a steep hill past numerous villages and people’s farms.
- While walking up the mountain, you will explore the beauty of the forest’s flora and fauna – rich birdlife, beautiful butterflies, monkeys, forest antelopes, and a number of medicinal plants – enjoying at the same time spectacular views of the lower areas of Arusha.
- Hiking Mount Meru is bound to make you work up an appetite. You will stop for lunch in a relaxing environment full of mountainous flowers.
- You continue hiking for another hour to reach the magnificent gigantic Meru Fall at an altitude of 2200 meters. You can take a dip in the cold, refreshing water for the waterfalls.
- After taking a few moments of relaxation in the fall, you will start heading back and transferred to Arusha.

Mount Meru Climbing Day Trip is a unique one-day trekking adventure to the foothills of Mount Meru, located inside Arusha National Park in Tanzania. This Full Day Mt Meru forest trek/ hike is designed for guests with limited time and not interested in reaching the summit of the second-highest mountain in Tanzania.

You will soak in the local culture by brushing shoulders with the many local people living up the side of the mountain while viewing amazing greenery and animals of all kinds. Walk through the forest of the second-largest mountain in Tanzania. Mount Meru has more than ten different day trekking routes around the lower forest, which last from 3 to 8 hours each

What To Bring

How to arrange a backpack that will be carry by Support-Crews

Packs that the Support-Crews carry on Kilimanjaro, limit to 20 kg. Wrap clothing in waterproof plastic bags.

In the day pack, take along water, sunglasses, camera, rain pants and jacket at a minimum

Add any other items you might need during the day, because you will not see the support crew until the end of your day hiking, when you reach your Hut

Bring double extra sets of batteries, as cold weather shortens their life quick

Carry critical climbing gear on the airplane in case baggage is delayed

SLEEPING BAG

Sleeping bag (Rated 10 degrees F/-25 degrees C or colder is recommended)

Sleeping Pad and Repair Kit

CLOTHING

You want your inner layer to be wicking – no cotton. Next layer should be insulating and warm, and the top layer should be waterproof but breathable. You will need clothes for hiking during the day, lounging in the evening, and for sleeping. Layers are important, as temperatures vary greatly

Your clothing should be lightweight, breathable, hand-washable, and quick drying

Shorts, mid-thigh or long

Long pants (zip-off pants are very useful)

Short-sleeved shirts, long-sleeved shirts, undergarments, socks

Sport-bras for women (Roads can be bumpy) sweater, jacket, windbreaker. Rain racket and pants or rain poncho

COLD WEATHER CLOTHING

Long underwear, fleece jacket or wool sweater, fleece pants, mittens and/or gloves (waterproof, one thin pair, one thick pair that can be layered)

Wool or pile hat, Balaclava or neck gaiter, Hand and foot warmers (chemical activated) Down jacket or parka (for temperatures below freezing plus wind)

FOOTWEAR

Be sure to break in your shoes before the hike

Trekking shoes for hiking during the day, preferably warm, waterproof, and with ankle support – not too light and not too heavy

Tennis shoes or sandals for lounging in the evening, hiking socks for warmer conditions, wool socks for colder conditions

BAGGAGE

Large duffel bag or backpack with rain cover, for Support-Crews to carry. Daypack and rain cover, for you to carry
