The itinerary

Day 01

Huaraz to Llaca Base Camp and Moraine Campsite

  • Departure from Huaraz at 9:00 am toward the east of Huaraz, driving to Llaca base camp at 4400 m.
  • Start climbing up toward Moraine from the base camp.
  • Reach the campsite at 4900 m after 3 hours of ascent.

  • Enjoy taking scenic photos of the beautiful sunset.

Overnight camp at Moraine.

Huaraz (3100 m) - Llaca base camp (4400 m) - Moraine campsite (4900 m).

Walk time: 3 hours ascent / driving time: 2 hours.

Day 02

Vallunaraju Summit Ascent and Return to Huaraz

  • Have an early breakfast at 2:00 am, then start walking up over rock slabs to the glacier edge for around 15 minutes.

  • Put on the climbing gear and tools to climb the ice terrace until reaching the summit at 5686 m.

  • Enjoy gorgeous views and a spectacular sunrise, with the Cordillera Negra to the west and several impressive summits over 6,000 meters around you, including Tocllaraju Mountain, Chopicalqui Mountain, Mount Huascaran, Mount Copa, Ocshapalca Mountain, Ranrapalca Mountain, and Huantzan Mountain.

  • Descend on the same path back to Moraine and take a short break.

  • Trek down to Llaca base camp, where private transport awaits for the drive back to Huaraz.
