Following the Marangu route, this 6-day hike leads to Mandara, Horombo, and Kibo huts, with an acclimatization day at Horombo Hut before the summit push. This route is known as the most popular and easiest way to the summit, with huts offering basic necessities along the trail.

Ascend a cleared ridge trail to Mandara Hut from Marangu Gate.
The first overnight stop is at Mandara Hut after a 4-5-hour trek (1830m-2700m above sea level).
Traverse through a short stretch of forest and a wooded stream into grassland from Mandara Hut.
Horombo Hut is reached after a six-hour trek and is 11 km from Mandara Hut (2700m-3720m above sea level).

Acclimatize with an extra day at Horombo Hut for the next day's long trek.
Reach Kibo Hut as the landscape becomes more rocky and rugged, leading up to the Saddle of Kilimanjaro between the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi.
Kibo Hut is reached after a 5-6-hour trek (3720m-4703m above sea level).
Trek to Gillman's Point (5680m) and Uhuru Peak (5895m). The climb takes लगभग 10-12 hours. It is normal to start the day's trek at 2 am or earlier to complete the demanding five hours in the dark. At sunrise, reach Gillman's Point on the edge of the crater. A further hour by daybreak permits the final push to Uhuru Peak.
Descend to Kibo Hut for a meal and rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut for the fifth night's overnight stay.
Trail down to Marangu Gate on a 10-12-hour trek. It is an easy descent to the gate.
Pick up and transfer to Arusha for post-extension trips.
