American D-Day Beaches in Normandy
Option no. 1: the Allies' artificial harbour, a German battery with the original guns still there, and the American sector.
- The American Cemetery: I will tell you some of the stories of the war victims.
- Omaha Beach: I will explain the battle from the beach.
- Pointe du Hoc: You will hear the story of the brave American Rangers who had to scale the cliff to neutralize the German guns on top.
- Gold Beach sector:
- Longues-sur-Mer: This is a German battery with the original cannons still in their original casemates. If there are children on the tour, they will love this place. I will explain the naval battle between the Allies and the Germans here.
- Arromanches: We will see the remains of the famous Allies' artificial harbour, which is still there. It is the only construction we have left from the Allies. I will explain the engineering from the beach.
Option no. 2: both American sectors.
- The American Cemetery: I will tell you some of the stories of the war victims.
- Omaha Beach: I will explain the battle from the beach.
- Pointe du Hoc: You will hear the story of the brave American Rangers who had to scale the cliff to neutralize the German guns on top.
- Sainte Mère Eglise: This is the church where the famous American paratrooper got snagged on top of the bell tower. It is also our lunch stop.
- Utah Beach: I will explain the landings of the 4th Infantry Division. On the way from Utah, we will see the monument dedicated to Richard WINTERS, hero of the series "Band of Brothers".
These are the stops, but there will also be many monuments, remains, and sites to see from the vehicle along the way. You will be able to eat lunch on your own during the tour, and I will recommend good places for lunch. Lunch is not included. At some of the sites, you will be given free time to pay your respects, take photos, or explore independently. The tour is around eight hours long, and the distance we cover is around 160 miles. I do not need to know the tour option now - we can talk about it on the morning of the tour.
