Extending your visit to the Cabo Girão cliffsThe municipality gained its name due to its river - Ribeira Brava, which translates as 'the angry river'. In rainy seasons, the river had an extremely strong and powerful current, that often wreaked havoc over the entire eight kilometres of the route.The waterfall cascades over the rockface onto the old E.R.101 regional roadway, and spills into the sea belowit is the largest and most extensive plateau of Madeira about 24 km2 (9.3 sq mi), with an altitude average of about 1,500 m (4,900 ft). Ilheus da Ribeira da Janela is located on the western end of the north coast of Maderia Island in Portugal. It’s 45-kilometers from the main town of Funchal.It is unclear when the area of Porto Moniz was first colonized, although it is likely that it occurred at the beginning of the last quarter of the 15th century. Francisco Moniz O Velho, is referred to as one of these first settlers, who had uncultivated lands in this area and was responsible for establishing a farm and chapelWith their natural beauty and peculiar origins, theses pools are an attraction for thousands of national and international tourists alike. The water is of excellent quality and the infrastructures match the level of excellence of this beach complex.This is precisely the stunning scenery of one of the most popular beaches in this parish, Porto do Seixal Beach, a natural black sand beach located right next to Seixal harbour. With a breathtaking landscape — the green cliffs and mountains of the island's north coast —this unsupervised beach offers its visitors access to the toilet facilities, showers and the bar of Clube Naval do Seixal Pools, right next to it, which is a free access facility with a natural pool and sun loungers.
