Like Elbrus, Kazbek is an extinct volcano, recognizable by its conical shape and the clear traces of an ancient giant crater. The mountain is surrounded by fairy tales, legends, and fascinating historical references, including the ancient Betlemi monastery at 3800 m, once known in the chronicles of "Kartlis tskhovreba" as a repository of shrines and church treasures. Kazbek is also linked to the works of Mikhail Lermontov, including "A Hero of Our Time" and "Mtsyri," making this climb a rewarding chance to test yourself on a peak rich in history and legend.
