Itinerary
-
Egyptian Museum, Old Cairo and Khan el Khalili
- Our Egyptologist will pick you up and take you to the center of Cairo, where you’ll start your trip at the Egyptian Museum in Al Tahrir Square to see over 25,000 incredible works of art from the Pharaonic period. The museum’s extensive masterpieces display Egyptian history from Cheops to Cleopatra.
- Then we will visit the site where Howard Carter unearthed the precious artifacts of the young king Tutankhamun in 1922, including the life-sized, solid gold death mask. After that, you’ll have some free time to see the greatness of Egypt’s pharaohs or explore the museum’s ancillary galleries to learn more about ancient Egyptian life.
- Moreover, we will visit Tahrir Square, the epicentre of the 2011 movement that gripped the world.
- Then we’ll have a meal in an Egyptian restaurant for lunch.
- In the afternoon, we’ll visit Sultan Hassan Mosque, in the historic district of Islamic Cairo, often regarded as the finest example of Islamic architecture in the world.
- After that, you’ll move on to the Coptic Cairo Region, where you can see the Hanging Church, a church built in the third century AD that got its name from its perch over the gatehouse of the Roman fortification Babylon. The 110 holy icons inside depict stunning religious settings.
- Next, we’ll stop at “Saint Sergius and Bacchus Church,” supposedly constructed where the holy family stayed the night before leaving Egypt. The final stop on the tour of Coptic Cairo is the “Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra,” named for the Geniza (Storeroom) discovered there in the 19th century, housing a treasure trove of forgotten Hebrew secular and religious writings.
- Finally, we’ll visit Khan El Khalili Bazar, often regarded as Egypt’s most recognizable bazaar.
- Our representative will take you back to your hotel at the end of the tour.
