Itinerary
-
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport and after customs and immigration formalities, you will be met by our representative, who will drive you to Arusha City, Tanzania's safari capital. It is located beneath the peak twins of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro. Arusha is a major international diplomatic hub. Your overnight will be at Under The Shade Safari Lodge
-
Day 2: Tarangire National Park
You'll have an early breakfast, and we'll depart for Tarangire National Park. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which runs through it. This ‘river of warthogs’ is the region's only water source for wildlife during the dry season. In some places, the vegetation is quite dense, including elephant grass, acacia woodlands and lush groundwater forest. The park is well known for its elephant families, which can often be seen congregating by the river. You may also see giraffes, bushbuck and hartebeest. Various predators, including lions and leopards, closely follow these animals. More bird breeding species are found in Tarangire than anywhere else on the planet. Giant baobab trees over 200 years old are scattered within the park. Drive to your accommodation for dinner and your overnight stay late in the afternoon.
-
Day 3-4: Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park, with game viewing en route. Serengeti is undoubtedly the best-known wildlife sanctuary in the world, unequalled for its natural beauty and scientific value. It has the greatest concentration of plains game in Africa. It is the migration for which the Serengeti is perhaps most famous. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains every October and November. They then swirl west and north after the long rains in April, May and June. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile-infested river can hold them back. Serengeti is truly home to the legendary great wildebeest migration. In the afternoon, drive back to your accommodation for dinner and your overnight stay.
-
Day 5: Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, drive out of the Serengeti and on to Ngorongoro Crater for a game-viewing drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s most famous sites and is said to have the highest density of wildlife in Africa. Sometimes described as an ‘eighth Wonder of the World, the Crater has achieved world-renowned status, attracting an ever-increasing number of visitors each year. You are unlikely to escape other vehicles here but are guaranteed great wildlife viewing in a mind-blowing environment. There is nowhere else in Africa like Ngorongoro, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! It is one of the best places in the country to see the endangered black rhinoceros. The park is home to the entirety of the Big Five and is a good place to see lions and Cape buffalo year-round. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Later, you'll drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
-
Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha
You'll have an early breakfast, then drive to the nearby Lake Manyara National Park for a game-viewing drive. Your first encounter will be a sighting of large troupes of baboons. The park derives its name from a plant called Euphorbia tirucalli, known as ‘Emanyara’ in the local Maasai language. Patches of yellow fever trees are dotted around the grassy lake shores, and the Rift Valley wall is a prominent feature throughout. The park's entrance is in a very special environment: a groundwater forest offering a beautiful change of scenery from the savannah-dominated parks. The lush green vegetation, tree-climbing lions, the soda lake inhabited with thousands of pink-hued flamingos, large water birds, troops of baboons and the Rift Valley escarpment make your safari to this area unforgettable. A packed lunch will be served at a picnic site. Late in the afternoon, drive back to Arusha in time for your homebound flight or a flight to Zanzibar.
