Day 01
Fort Bullen, Juffureh, Albreda and Kunta Kinteh Island
- Pick up from your hotel at 7:00 a.m. and drive to the Banjul ferry terminal.
- After crossing by ferry, your first stop is Fort Bullen, an anti-slavery fort with a historical museum. A knowledgeable guide will explain the fort's history and its connection to the transatlantic slave trade.
- Continue to Juffureh and Albreda, the home village of Kunta Kinteh. Pay a courtesy visit to the seventh-generation granddaughter of Kunta Kinteh, where you will have a guided tour of Kunta Kinteh's life and his journey to America.
- After leaving the Kinteh clan, visit the Exhibition of Slavery Museum in Juffureh, which contains artifacts and information about slavery and the slave trade. Gain in-depth knowledge about what really happened in the past.
- Then proceed to the former French settlement of Albreda, where you can see the monuments of "Never Again" and the Freedom flag pole. Embark on a boat trip to Kunta Kinteh Island, formerly James Island. This island was a departure point for hundreds of thousands of enslaved individuals captured on the Gambia River from 1588 to 1807. Learn the history of the Middle Passage and what truly happened from Africa to America.
- Later, cruise back to Albreda for a lunch break and finally return to your hotel with a proper insight into Gambia's past, especially the transatlantic slave trade.
