The itinerary

Day 01

Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • You will be picked up from your lodge early in the morning and driven to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Your Broveny Safari guide will first brief you on what to expect, the drive time, and ensure that you have the right gear for your 5-day Ishasha tree-climbing lions and Queen Elizabeth NP safari. This journey takes you through small towns along the Kampala-Mbarara road. Along the way, you will be able to see royal drum makers and small markets, and a stop at the Equator for stretching and photography will be worthwhile. Lunch will be served en route, after which you will proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a short relaxation and an evening game drive.

Day 02

Kasenyi Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise

  • After an early morning coffee or tea, you will drive to the Kasenyi Plains for your game drive. The Kasenyi Plains boast several wild animals, and your chances of seeing them depend on the luck of the day. On a good day, you may spot big cats like lions and leopards hunting, as well as buffaloes, elephants, several antelopes, warthogs, and other small mammals. Return to the lodge for lunch, then drive to Mweya Peninsula for a two-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The Kazinga Channel has one of the highest concentrations of hippos in the world, over 400 water bird species, and is a place where many animals converge to drink water. You will likely spot hippos, birds, elephants, buffaloes, crocodiles, and more. Retire to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 03

Transfer to Ishasha and Community Visit

  • Enjoy an early morning game drive, check out of your lodge, and drive 2-3 hours to the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, otherwise known as Ishasha. Enjoy your lunch and thereafter drive to the Ishasha community uplift project to observe how the local community living near the park co-exists with wildlife harmoniously. You will visit a model family that will take you around to show you how to stop animals from feeding on their crops and livestock, explain the challenges faced, and demonstrate opportunities available for both the community and wildlife conservation. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 04

Morning and Afternoon Game Drives in Ishasha

  • The day begins early with breakfast, then you will set off for an early morning game drive along the Ishasha Plains for a memorable experience of tree-climbing lions. Ishasha is popular for tree-climbing lions, and the chances of seeing them climbing depend on the luck of the day. Ishasha also has other animals like buffaloes, elephants, antelopes, and many others. You may also drive to River Ishasha to see the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Return to the lodge for lunch and then head out again for an evening game drive in Ishasha.

Day 05

Return to Kampala

  • After your early morning breakfast, you will depart for Kampala, having experienced all the fascinating Queen Elizabeth National Park nature. Return to Kampala, arriving in the late evening to catch your flight back home.
