Day 01

Philippi, St. Lydia and Kavala Old Town

  • Connect with your licensed tourist guide either at the archaeological site of Philippi or in Kavala city centre to begin the itinerary.
  • Begin by exploring the city of Philippi, where you will spend approximately 2 hours, with a coffee break in between.
  • Visit the modern Baptistery of St. Lydia, then drive back to Kavala, about 35 minutes away.
  • Walk around the old city to see the historic Imaret building, the old house of Mohamed Ali, former governor of Egypt, the Byzantine church of Panagia, and the Aqueduct.
  • Next, visit the Byzantine church and former mosque of St. Nickolas.
  • Afterwards, head to the local shopping centre and the regional market to browse for souvenirs.
  • Later, taste local flavours at a favourite seafood restaurant and enjoy a little of the famous Greek drink, Ouzo.
