Beijing Night Walk at Tiananmen Square
- Meet your guide in the lobby of your Beijing city hotel. Start time is between 4:30 pm and 6 pm to coincide with Tiananmen Square's flag-lowering ceremony, which is timed according to sunset. You can take a taxi or the subway at your own cost to reach Tian'anmen Square.
- Depending on your start time, you may first stroll along Qianmen Shopping Street, the oldest and most famous ancient shopping street with a unique culture. Learn about its history and explore different shops and snack streets.
- Next, stroll to Tiananmen Square, the world's largest city-center public square. View buildings including Tiananmen Gate, the Great Hall of the People, the Monument to the People's Heroes, the National Theatre, and Chairman Mao's Memorial Hall after their floodlights switch on, while learning about their history and functions.
- Continue to watch the flag-lowering ceremony, with 36 soldiers carrying the Chinese national flag and taking a total of 138 steps toward Tiananmen Square. It is a very patriotic experience.
- Your last stop is the National Theatre, a modern, egg-shaped center designed by French architect Paul Andreu. As you explore the illuminated streets, feel free to interact with your tour guide and get insider tips on restaurants, bars, and nightspots. Your tour concludes here; you can choose to explore on your own or return to your hotel. Your guide will help you find a taxi at your own cost.
