Beijing to Datong for the Hanging Temple and Yungang Grottoes

  • Meet your driver in the lobby of your Beijing city hotel and transfer to the train station. Enjoy a 2-hour bullet train ride on your own. Upon arrival in Datong, your local tour guide will greet you and take you to the Hanging Temple. The Hanging Temple is the only existing temple that hosts worship for Taoists, Confucians, and Buddhists. Built in 491 A.D., it is an architectural wonder, hanging on the west cliff of Jinxia Gorge more than 50 meters above the ground.
  • Follow your tour guide to explore the area, then stop at a local restaurant for a quick lunch.
  • Continue to the Yungang Grottoes, approximately a 1.5-hour drive away. With 252 caves and 51,000 statues, the art of the Yungang Grottoes represents the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from South and Central Asia with Chinese cultural traditions. Spend some leisure time exploring the area.
  • After the tour, transfer to Datong railway station and head back to Beijing. Your driver in Beijing will pick you up from the train station and transfer you to your hotel.
