Day 02

Drive to Bale Mountains National Park

  • In the morning after breakfast, continue the journey to Bale Mountain, about 400 km from the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa.
  • Arrival will be in the late afternoon. Stop for lunch at a viewpoint and observe the magical landscape.
  • On arrival at Bale Mountain, meet your guide and drive to the park headquarters. Afterwards, your hike will take you through the park headquarters, where you will have a chance to spot endemic or endangered mammals such as mountain nyala, Menelik's bushbuck, warthogs, reedbuck, grey duiker, and baboons. You may also see birds of the country such as the Abyssinian catbird, white-backed black tit, black-headed siskin, and wattled ibis, all found in the juniper woodlands of Bale Mountain. Then continue driving for 45 km.

Overnight at the Wave Shaballe Hotel, at an altitude of 2800 metres above sea level.

3
Day 03

Sanetti Plateau and Haranna Forest Excursion

  • You will drive to the Sanntti Plateau, part of the national park and known as the home of Ethiopian wolves in Oromia, Ethiopia. More than 350 Ethiopian wolves live in this relatively large area, along with giant mole rats, a few groups of mountain nyala, and much of the park's birdlife. With more than 310 species of birds, Bale is one of the most popular national parks for birding on the African continent.
  • Then continue driving from the plateau for 1 hour towards Haranna Forest for your next attraction. In the late afternoon, drive back to Goba.

Overnight in the same hotel.

Day 04

Trek from Dinsho to Sodota Campsite

  • In the morning after breakfast, begin your hike to Sodota, an 18 km trek from Dinsho through the spectacular scenery of Web Valley towards the Fincha Haber waterfall, where the Web and Wolla rivers meet. In this area, you will have your first chance to spot the endemic Ethiopian wolf, as well as raptors, rock hyrax, and endemic birds such as the blue-winged goose. This will surely leave you excited and in awe of the actual wilderness of Bale Mountain. On arrival at the campsite, you will enjoy a nice coffee or tea break.

6
Day 06

Trek from Kerrense to Rafu

  • Through this next section of wilderness, it becomes very easy to see how the mountain massif was formed. A super volcano long ago shaped this landscape, and Ice Age glaciers also played a major role in sculpting the mountains. The walk between Kerrense and Rafu highlights the volcanic influence, with incredible rock formations of basalt pipes and granite boulders scattered across the high country, making this a stunning 6-7 hour hike.

Day 07

Trek from Rafu to Wasama Valley

  • In the morning after breakfast, leave beautiful Rafu and head to the Wasama valleys. Pass through the most beautiful Afro-alpine moorland, with beautiful wild alpine scenery and lakes on the plateau.

Overnight at Wasama at an altitude of 4000 metres above sea level.

8
Day 08

Trek from Wasama to Garaba Guracha
