Santo Antão Trek from Cova Crater to Cabo de Ribeira
- Begin with an early morning pick-up at your accommodation in Mindelo and transfer to the harbour for your ferry journey to our neighbouring paradise island, Santo Antão. During the crossing of the canal, which takes up to 1 hour, you may stand on deck to look out for dolphins, flying fish, and other marine life, or simply relax in the comfortable seats and enjoy some music along the way.
- Arrive in Porto Novo, where you will be met by your local guide as you exit the terminal. From here, travel through the mountains to the top of the ancient volcanic crater of Cova, a true must-see. At the summit, take in breathtaking views over the immense lush green valley below, with Vila das Pombas waiting in the distance by the sea. On this mostly descending trek from Cova crater to Cabo de Ribeira, walking into the Paúl Valley, you will pass through small villages where agriculture shapes daily life, with mango, papaya, guayaba, oranges, apples, passion fruit, avocado trees, sugarcane fields, and banana and coffee plants all along the route.
- After the trek, enjoy a delicious lunch at a typical local restaurant. Then travel back to Porto Novo along the stunning coastal road, passing through mountain tunnels and colourful villages before arriving at the ferry terminal. Board the ferry back to São Vicente, and upon arrival at the harbour, enjoy your transfer back to your accommodation in Mindelo.
