Hike to Volcano Viana from Calhau

Take a trip out of town to one of São Vicente's extinct volcanoes. Volcano Viana, 14 kilometres southeast of the island's capital, Mindelo, at an altitude of 163 metres, is located 3 kilometres south of Calhau. Walk through the desert landscape to Viana, then climb along a path of volcanic rocks to the crater. Enjoy breathtaking views inside and around the crater, overlooking the village and the island of Santa Luzia, São Nicolau, and the Branco and Raso islets.
