Embark on a 4-day Mount Meru trekking adventure from Arusha, hiking through picturesque mountain trails to Mariakamba Hut and Saddle Hut. Along the way, enjoy panoramic landscapes and an optional hike to Little Mount Meru for scenic views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the "Roof of Africa." Reach the summit of Mount Meru before dawn to witness a mesmerizing sunrise, then descend through your choice of route back to Momela Gate. The itinerary

Day 01

Arusha to Momela Gate and Trek to Mariakamba Hut

• Meet your mountain guide at your hotel in Arusha at 9:30 am. Drive for about 1 hour to Mount Meru Momela Gate, then begin a 4-hour hike with a picnic lunch to Mariakamba Hut at 8,500 ft., where you will have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 02

Trek from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

• After breakfast, begin a 4 to 5-hour hike to Saddle Hut at 11,500 ft. Enjoy your picnic lunch on the way. From here, clients can hike for 2 hours to Little Mount Meru for a scenic view of the "Roof of Africa," Mount Kilimanjaro. Dinner and overnight stay at Saddle Hut.

Day 03

Summit Mount Meru at Sunrise and Descend to Miriakamba Hut

• Have coffee at 1:00 am, then start a 4.5-hour hike to the Mount Meru summit. Arrive at the summit at 5:30 am to await sunrise. From the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut at 11,500 ft. for lunch. After lunch, continue descending to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 04

Descend to Momela Gate and Return to Arusha

• After breakfast, proceed with your morning trek to Momella Gate and enjoy your lunch en route. You have two route options. Route 1 is a straight descent to Momella Gate and takes about 3 hours. Route 2 is a scenic route through the Meru Crater, down the Montane forest, and ends at Momella Gate. It takes about 6 hours.
• After collecting your certificate, drive from Momella Gate to your hotel and expect to arrive around 4 pm.

What to bring

• When preparing for your safari to Tanzania, the most important thing is to pack your travel documents, such as your passport, visa, air ticket, yellow fever vaccine certificate, and travel insurance documents. Since the pandemic broke out, also bring a negative Covid 19 PCR test or Covid 19 vaccination certificate, clothes for cold weather, and all required climbing equipment that is not mentioned in the itinerary as inclusive.
