Explore Beijing's Historic Hutongs and Local Flavours
- Beijing people say that authentic Chinese culture lies in the old Hutongs and their small courtyards. Your guide will take you through narrow, labyrinth-like streets so you can get a feeling of authentic Chinese life away from the tourist paths.
- You will go deep into the oldest part of the city and gain an insight into ordinary Beijingers' lifestyles. Due to the interlacing lanes, every house here shares a wall with others, making it easy for residents to keep in touch. You will feel how deep and warm the relationships between neighbours are.
- Walk around the most famous Hutongs in Beijing - Yandaixiejie and Hou Hai Lake - whose history began at the end of the Qing Dynasty. There were many smoking pipe stores on the street, including Shuangshengtai. As time went by, the whole city came to know the street for its giant smoking pipe, which is how it got its name. Some people also say that the road itself looks like a smoking pipe. Your guide will share exciting stories about this authentic place and its residents.
- Also explore Houhai, meaning "Back Sea," a large artificial lake in northern downtown.
- Enjoy the local delicacies at Nanluoguxiang Hutong, an area surrounded by attractive bars, restaurants, and hotels.
