Day 01

Petrohué Waterfalls, Cochamó Hike and Frutillar

  • We will start the day with a visit to the Saltos de Petrohué, about 50 km from Puerto Varas, part of Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. This sector offers an opportunity to experience the elements among dense forests, rivers, and pure waterfalls. We will hike through the forest to enjoy the magnificent Petrohué Waterfalls at the foot of Osorno Volcano.
  • Next, we continue to Lake Todos los Santos, also known as Lake Esmeralda because of the colour of its waters. This lake is surrounded by low forests of medium altitude, as well as the Osorno and Puntiagudo volcanoes and Mount Tronador. We will observe how the vegetation changes as we climb the road to Osorno Volcano, passing from dense, tall forests to lower vegetation.
  • After that, we will head south to the village of Cochamó and do a moderate hike of about 1 hour round trip to reach the Entre Volcanes viewpoint, which offers a breathtaking view of the estuary and the Osorno and Yates volcanoes.
  • In the afternoon, we will visit the German Colonial Museum in Frutillar, housed in an old and imposing barn of German colonial architecture that exhibits many objects from different aspects of the daily life of these settlers.
  • Then, we will continue by vehicle toward Frutillar, a small town 30 km away, passing through Llanquihue, another town founded by German settlers. From there, we will begin to skirt the second-largest lake in Chile and enjoy beautiful views of the Osorno, Puntiagudo, and Cerro Tronador volcanoes.
  • In Frutillar, we will visit the Teatro del Lago, a first-class performance hall associated with high-level international schools and known for presenting an agenda full of recognized artists. It is also an educational project linked with local schools that attracts children and young people, reflecting the artistic vocation of the whole region and the country.
  • After visiting Frutillar and the Teatro del Lago, we return to Puerto Varas. Please note that the visit to the theatre takes place from the outside, and for an interior visit it is necessary to book in advance and pay the entrance fee.
