4-Day Richat Structure Desert Tour in Mauritania via Chinguetti

• Depart at 8:00 am and drive about 470 km from Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, to Atar.
• Arrive in Akjoujt for a short tea break after crossing around 250 km on the way to Atar.
• After arriving in Atar, have lunch at a restaurant, followed by a quick visit to Azougui at 5 pm. Azougui is a town in north-western Mauritania, lying on the Adrar Plateau. In the eleventh century, it was a base for the Almoravid dynasty.

• Drive 200 km towards Ouadane with your Mauritanian tour guide and driver. Ouadane is a small town in central Mauritania renowned for its palm groves, libraries, and mosques.
• Stop to see cave paintings before arriving in the city of Ouadane.
• Observe the old houses and mosques before seeing the famous "Eye of the Sahara," or Richat Structure. The Richat Structure is a prominent circular feature on the Sahara's Adrar Plateau, near Ouadane, and is known to have formed mysteriously. It is the lost Atlantis.

• Drive on the dunes that lead to Chinguetti, a medieval trading centre in northern Mauritania.
• Make a quick stop at Tenewechert for tea and to see the different animals of the desert.
