Lake Mývatn, Goðafoss and Nature Baths Discovery

  • First, drive along the coast of Eyjafjörður, one of the longest fjords in Iceland. Begin with a stop at Goðafoss waterfall, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland, on the way to Lake Mývatn. The lake was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2,300 years ago, and the surrounding landscape is dominated by volcanic landforms, including lava pillars and rootless vents.
  • Take a look at Grjótagjá cave and stop at the hot spring area at Hverarönd in Námaskarð and the Nature Baths, where you get the chance to relax in the steam baths and bathe in the geothermal water. You can also enjoy a massage in the baths.
  • On the way back, come to the unique lava formations of Dimmuborgir, which are among the most popular tourist attractions in the Lake Mývatn area. There is also a stop at Skútustaðagígar, the pseudocraters area.
  • The last stop is in Eyjafjörður, where you can look over the fjord toward Akureyri and take a great photo.
