Join this 4-day trip from Antananarivo to Miandrivazo and onward along the Tsiribihina River in western Madagascar. This journey includes stops such as Antsirabe, Miandrivazo, Begidro, Tsimafana, and Morondava, with the most exciting part being the river section, known for its rich flora and fauna and mangrove trees. From Miandrivazo to Belo-sur-Tsiribihina, you may see wild birds, lemurs, Bemaraha Canyon, crocodiles, chameleons, tortoises, bats, Pachypodium or dwarf baobabs, baobab trees, a natural swimming pool, and a waterfall. The itinerary

Day 01

Travel from Antananarivo to Miandrivazo

Take public transportation from Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar, to Miandrivazo, a town in Madagascar.

Day 02

From Miandrivazo or Masiakampy to the Waterfall

If you are visiting from December to March, during the rainy season, begin the trip from Miandrivazo city. If the trip is planned between April and November, during the dry season, embark from Masiakampy, a small village located 30 km from Miandrivazo city.

Spend the night camping on the beach beside the waterfall.

Day 03

Waterfall Journey to Tsaraotana Village

Admire the creatures living along both sides of the river.
Visit Tsaraotana village, a town and commune in Madagascar that belongs to the district of Belo-sur-Tsiribihina, and enjoy the sights along the river.

Spend the night camping on the beach.

Day 04

Tsaraotana Village to Morondava via the Baobabs

Admire the baobab forest growing along the Tsiribihina River. Different species of birds fly here and there along the river, creating a visual delight for visitors.
Dock smoothly on the Tsiribihina River in the afternoon.
A private vehicle will transfer you to Baobab Avenue and the Lovers' Baobab near Morondava. The transfer to Morondava is planned for 7:00 p.m.

What to bring

Please bring the following items during the tour:

Depending on the season.
During the dry season from August to December, you need to bring light clothing.
During the rainy season from December to March, you need to bring a raincoat.
During the winter, from April to July, you need to bring warm clothing.
Through all seasons, you have to wear sturdy shoes while trekking, especially when you trek through Tsingy National Park.
Do not forget to bring sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a flashlight. Sometimes, the power does not work 24/7 in the countryside of Madagascar.

Know before you go

Hiring a local guide is mandatory when you visit any park in Madagascar.
If you bring USD bills, make sure they were issued after 2010. In Madagascar, no money changer company accepts USD bills issued before 2010.
Wearing a face mask is still mandatory in crowded and confined places.
A Covid-19 vaccination pass is required at the airport.
