Traverse Uganda's wildland over 12 days on a safari that combines classic game viewing with unforgettable primate encounters. Track rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, explore Murchison Falls National Park by game drive and boat cruise, and continue to Kibale for chimpanzee tracking. The journey also takes you through Queen Elizabeth National Park and the Ishasha sector for tree-climbing lions before culminating in a rare mountain gorilla experience in Mgahinga. End with wildlife viewing in Lake Mburo National Park before returning to Entebbe.

The River Nile squeezes itself into a 7 m gorge and produces a thunderous roar before plunging into the Devil's Cauldron.

Day 01

Arrival in Entebbe

  • Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our GoExplore Safaris team, who will brief you and transfer you to your lodge.

Day 02

Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa

  • Your safari guide will meet you at your hotel, after which you will begin a panoramic drive to Murchison Falls National Park. You will stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for lunch and rhino tracking before proceeding to the park and continuing to your lodge.

Day 03

Murchison Falls Game Drive, Boat Cruise, and Hike

  • Today, we shall have an early morning breakfast and go for a game drive in the park. Murchison Falls harbors 76 mammal species and 451 bird species and is home to the world's most powerful waterfall. You will have perfect opportunities to take as many pictures as possible of the animals.
  • Later in the afternoon after lunch, you will go for an amazing boat cruise that will take you past different animal and bird species up to the bottom of Murchison Falls, followed by a hike to the top of the falls. The River Nile squeezes itself into a 7 m gorge and produces a thunderous roar before plunging into the Devil's Cauldron.

Day 04

Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

  • We shall have breakfast at our leisure and later transfer to Kibale Forest National Park. This park has the highest concentration of primates of any park in Africa. It is home to man's closest relatives, the chimpanzees, as well as other primate species, different bird species, and other animals. You will have a stopover in Fort Portal town for lunch, then proceed to Kibale and your lodge.

Day 05

Chimpanzee Tracking and Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary

  • After breakfast, we shall transfer you to the Kanyanchu Tourist Center for a briefing and orientation by the rangers before setting off for the chimpanzee tracking experience. You will then head into the forest for the tracking experience. During the chimp tracking experience, you may also encounter other primate species and bird species.

After lunch, we shall proceed to Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary.

Day 06

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

  • After breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the medley of wonders, arriving in time for lunch. Spend time exploring the crater explosions, then have lunch at the lodge and later enjoy an evening game viewing drive.

Day 07

Queen Elizabeth Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Cruise

  • Today, we shall have an early morning breakfast and depart for a game drive. This park is blessed with an abundance of different animal and bird species that may be encountered during the drive.
  • Later in the afternoon, you will have lunch at the lodge and proceed for a launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel. From the comfort of your seat on the boat, you will see different animal and bird species during the cruise. The park harbors almost 100 mammal species such as leopard, buffaloes, hippos, spotted hyenas, lions, and many others. There are also over 606 bird species found in this park, including the rare black-rumped buttonquail, the martial eagle, the African skimmer, and Verreaux's eagle owl, to mention but a few.
  • Upon arrival, you will check in to your lodge and later depart for an evening game drive.

Day 08

Ishasha Sector and Tree-Climbing Lions

  • This morning, we shall have breakfast and transfer to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This sector is home to tree-climbing lions. Upon arrival, you will check in at Ishasha Wilderness Camp for lunch and afternoon relaxation. Later in the evening, you will have a sunset game drive in the park, where you may encounter tree-climbing lions and other animal species such as elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, and different bird species.

Day 09

Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

On this day, we shall have breakfast at our leisure and transfer to the home of the rare mountain gorillas, Mgahinga National Park. You will pass via the Ishasha sector to see the tree-climbing lions that reside in this remote woodland sector located at the southern end of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Other animals that may be spotted include elephants, Uganda kobs, and buffaloes. You will have lunch en route and proceed to your lodge.

Day 10

Gorilla Tracking in Mgahinga

  • Mgahinga National Park is Uganda's smallest national park, harboring mountain gorillas. We shall have an early morning breakfast, then head to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for briefing, orientation, and meeting the guides. You will then be partitioned into groups depending on which gorilla family has been assigned. The ranger guides will lead you through the gorilla paths in the Mgahinga forests in search of gorillas. Once the gorillas are tracked, you will be given 1 hour for interaction and taking photos.
  • After tracking, depending on the time, you may take a community walk to visit the native Batwa community and enjoy cultural entertainment.
  • In the evening, head back to the lodge for relaxation and dinner.

Day 11

Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

  • After breakfast, we shall drive to Lake Mburo National Park. On arrival, you will do an evening game drive during which you may see various animals such as oribis, zebras, buffaloes, topis, elands, and impalas, among several others. Lake Mburo National Park is located in Western Uganda and is the smallest of Uganda's savannah national parks.

Day 12

Lake Mburo Game Drive and Return to Entebbe

  • Very early this morning, we will have an en route game drive in the park, after which we will drive back to Kampala. We will have lunch en route around Entebbe, make a stop at the Equator for photography moments, and continue to Entebbe for your flight back home.

Know before you go

  • Please note that we cannot hold Gorilla Permits provisionally, and confirmation of accommodation does not automatically mean confirmation of Gorilla Permits. We will always request the go-ahead to purchase the permits on your behalf before confirming the bookings. We can only book Gorilla Permits upon receipt of full payment for them. Once we have secured the permits, we will notify you via email. Once booked, Gorilla Permits are non-refundable and non-transferable. Gorilla permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Please book early to avoid disappointment.
  • There is a minimum age limit for gorilla tracking, which is strictly 15 years.
  • Please note: the proposal is subject to the availability of hotels, transport, and other services. Seasonality and other factors beyond our control might have an impact.
  • Gorilla tracking is subject to the availability of permits, which are limited to 8 per gorilla group per day.
  • Any Gorilla permit required needs to be paid for upfront when booking. As soon as the funds clear in our account, we will go ahead and purchase it.
  • Gorilla permits cannot be held with the Uganda Wildlife Authority in advance of payment and Rwanda Development Board - they are only secured once physically paid for.
  • Gorilla permits are always 100% non-transferable and non-refundable.
