Day 01
Jaisalmer to Khichan, Osian Temples, and Jodhpur Drop
- Meet your tour guide, who will pick you up from your desired place in Jaisalmer.
- Drive through the countryside, 175 km beyond Jaisalmer, towards Phalodi, the city of richly carved havelis and temples. Nearby is the village of Khichan, which regularly hosts flocks of Demoiselle Cranes (locally called Kurja). They arrive in their thousands due to the favourable conditions and protection given by the villagers. Their stay lasts about 5 to 6 months, after which they return to their breeding grounds in March-April. Many folk songs are based on these migratory birds.
- See the ancient sacred temples of Osian. Osian was a great trading centre between the 08th and 12th centuries. Today, it is a desert oasis with sixteen Brahmanical and Jain temples, beautifully sculpted and designed, most of which have withstood the ravages of time. The largest of these are the Sachchiya Mata Temple and the Mahavir Jain Temple, both of which are still functional.
- Drive to Jodhpur city, where you will be dropped off at your desired place.
