The itinerary

1
Day 01

Explore Gaziantep's Museums, Castle, and Bazaars

  • Meet your guide and receive assistance at Gaziantep Airport.
  • Start the tour at the Gaziantep Zeugma Mosaic Museum to see the mosaics extracted from Zeugma (Belkıs).
  • Head to Antep Castle and the panoramic time tunnel of the Antep War of Independence, where you will also see copper products that were widely used in the city in the past.
  • Continue to the historical Coppersmith Bazaar and see other historical sites such as Zincirli Bedesten, Tahmis Coffeehouse, Gümrük Inn, and the Gaziantep Hamam Museum.

Day 02

Journey to Kâhta and Sunset at Mt. Nemrut

  • Have breakfast and travel to Kâhta by minibus for the magnificent sunset, beginning with a visit to the Karakuş Tumulus built by Antiochus I for his mother, Isias.
  • Continue towards the Cendere Bridge built by the Romans. Then go to the entrance of Kâhta Castle for photos, visit Arsemia, the summer capital of the Commagene Kingdom, and afterwards drive to Mt. Nemrut.
  • Hike to the top of the mountain in about 15 minutes using the stairs. See the tumulus and the god statues built by Antiochus, the young and powerful king of the Commagene Kingdom. Watch the sunset and receive information from your guide. You will never forget the sunset in this magical place, where the sun sets with one of the most beautiful views in the world.
  • Drive to Şanlıurfa.

Day 03

Discover Harran and the Sacred Heritage of Şanlıurfa

  • Have breakfast at the hotel and depart for Harran.
  • See the earthen Harran houses with conical roofs, the ancient ruins of Harran University, considered the first university in the world, the historical Harran Fortress from the time when Harran was the capital of the Umayyads, and the Harran walls surrounding the city.
  • Drive back to Şanlıurfa and visit the Archaeology and Mosaic Museum in the city centre.
  • Later in the afternoon, go to Ayn Zeliha Lake (Balıklıgöl), Halil-ur Rahman Mosque, Rizvaniye Mosque, the cave where Prophet Abraham was born, Sipahi Bazaar, Naccar Bazaar, the historical Gümrük Inn, and the Culinary Museum.

Overnight in Şanlıurfa.

Day 04

Visit Göbeklitepe and Travel to Mardin via Dara

  • Take the road to Göbeklitepe, one of the most important archaeological discoveries in human history, dating back 12,000 years and thought to be the first pilgrimage centre, deeply challenging the truths of known written history. Göbeklitepe, one of the oldest temples known as a result of studies carried out so far, is located in the Mesopotamia region. It offers important data on religious beliefs in hunter-gatherer societies. Considered from architectural and socio-economic perspectives, it helps us understand the beliefs of the people of the period. It gives information about how sanctuaries were created and enlightens us about religion, religious symbols, technology, and science.
  • Drive to Dara, known as the Ephesus of Mesopotamia. After sightseeing, arrive in Mardin and check in to the hotel.

Day 05

Walk Through Historic Mardin and Transfer to the Airport

  • Have breakfast at the hotel. Your first stop is Mor Behrem Kırklar Church. Following the information you receive from the church office, walk through the narrow streets of Mardin to see and photograph the Mardin Museum, Latifiye Mosque, and the Ulu Mosque, one of the most important structures in the region.
  • Visit the PTT building, which has hosted many TV series and films. After that, visit the Şehidiye Mosque and Madrasa, then pass through the Abbaras, one of the symbols of Mardin.
  • See the Kasımiye Madrasa.
  • Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

Know before you go

  • Climbing Mount Nemrut starts after May because before this month there is snow on the mountain. Therefore, whether you are travelling in autumn, spring, or summer, make sure to bring something suitable for the season so that the cold weather does not overshadow your enjoyment.
  • Please note that you will have to climb about 300 stairs. Those with shortness of breath, pacemakers, and blood pressure conditions should be careful while climbing Mt. Nemrut.
  • German-, French-, Italian-, Spanish-, and Arabic-speaking guides are also available at an additional cost of Euro 50 per day.
  • Korean-, Japanese-, and Russian-speaking guides are available at an additional cost of Euro 75 per day.
